Dawn Rager Feb. 13, 2010
Hello, I'm Dawn Rager.
Thank you for visiting my website!

I'm a native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School (1990) and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP, 1994).   I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications: Education and Training (with additional emphasis in Human Resources Development).

I'm happily married with twin daughters, and I reside in Richland township (a suburb of Johnstown, Pennsylvania) with my two orange and white Tabby cats.

 In Business

I'm a professional technical writer, blogger, speaker, and communications specialist.   I enjoy all forms of writing, speaking, and teaching.   I have served as an Adjunct Instructor for Penn Highlands Community College (PHCC) teaching "Basic Computer Literacy" in collaboration with CareerLink services (Oct. 2005 to May 2007), and I most recently presented a "Business Writing" workshop at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) as part of the Outreach and Professional Services program (May 20th, 2008).   I'm also the former owner of Get It Write! Business Solutions (May 2006 to January 2009).

My writing portfolio includes:
  • resumes, cover letters, and related employment documentation (i.e. letters of recommendation, resignation letters, etc.);
  • technical writing (i.e. user guides, training documentation, employee manuals,etc.);
  • marketing documentation (brochures, website content, marketing letters, etc.);
  • reports, proposals, organizational by-laws, newsletters, and general business correspondence writing; and
  • commentaries and articles

 In the Community

I'm the Chairperson and a co-founder of the *NEW*  Windber Area Community Kitchen (also fondly known as W.A.C.K.).   This non-profit, non-denominational community service organization provides healthy, home-cooked meals to those in need without regard to sex, religion, race, creed, ethnic background, and economic status.   W.A.C.K. is comprised of over 80 individual volunteers (including numerous area churches and organizations) who regularly assist us with our monthly meals.   W.A.C.K. IS NOT government-funded.   Come find out what we're about;  we serve all who come  (no questions asked)!   We define serving those "in need" in terms of physical food, emotional, social, and/or spiritual "food" needs.   Plainly said, we are about serving others and showing love, kindness, and compassion to everyone!

As Chairperson (and the Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator), I regularly visit area churches, businesses, and organizations to present information about this non-profit service program and to rally for additional volunteer help and donations.   If you're interested in viewing my PowerPoint presentation (approximately 10 minutes in length) and/or would like me to come and speak at your church, place of business or venue, please contact me via the Contact  link or on the W.A.C.K. website.

*We are very pleased to announce that we are now officially a 501C3 non-profit organization and ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.   Thank you for your continued support of this very important and VERY NEEDED ministry! †

I'm a certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church, and I'm also very active in music ministry with my husband, Chuck.   I'm a keyboardist and singer for the contemporary Christian worship band Calvary Cross.

Lastly, I'm a member of the Windber's Business and Professional Women (BPW) group and the Johnstown Christian Writers' Guild.

Hahahahaha!

There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer. When asked to define "great" he said, "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, and howl in pain and anger!"...

He now works for Microsoft writing error messages.
