More of the same? Not if I can help it!

I was very disheartened to see a recent commercial on t.v. suggesting that the 12th Congressional District Republican nominee, Tim Burns, is advocating a national sales tax.   Friends, this is simply NOT TRUE!

Even though I’m a devout Conservative, I always try to give others the benefit of doubt.  I also evaluate the issues, first, before making a decision about how I will vote since I think it’s very irresponsible to just vote straight down a party line because “you’re a Democrat or Republican.”  Friends, the 12th District Congressional race is becoming more of the same dishonest rhetoric we are experiencing right now in Washington.  Tim Burns’ opponent is falsifying Tim’s stand on key issues, and it is very evident that we’re in for “more of the same” if another Democrat retains this very important seat.

Tim Burns has NEVER supported a national sales tax.  Nowhere in his speeches will you find a sound byte or written statement promoting this idea.  Tim HAS SAID that he would carefully consider a FLAT TAX for Americans (to replace our existing tax system), but he also has cautioned that this revolutionary idea would need much contemplation and planning (and should not be rushed into).

Friends, while the attack ads continue (and they will), please test everything before making a decision.  Tim Burns says what he means, and means what he says.  He’s the real deal, folks!  Tim Burns will never intentionally misrepresent the facts (like his opposition has).  This is exactly the reason we need Tim Burns for our district; he wants to go to Congress to bring INTEGRITY back to Washington and the offices held by our elected officials.

Furthermore, Tim Burns wants to utilize the coal and mining industries of western PA to both promote jobs and to help our nation with its energy needs.  He also wants to stop the out-of-control spending in Washington so we can responsibly budget our resources for our future generations.  Lastly, Tim Burns is a social conservative who understands the importance of protecting the unborn and who values his right to own a gun (as promised in our Constitution).  If you, too, value these key issues, VOTE FOR TIM BURNS.  It truly isn’t about his political affiliation or title, friends (We need to get beyond this here in western PA.).  This is OUR TIME to shine and to tell Washington (and the country) who WE TRULY ARE:  We are SMART, ENGAGED, and we HAVE INTEGRITY.

Now, more than ever, we truly have the power to be heard, to make a difference, and to be ADVOCATES OF CHANGE.  Do not let this opportunity pass you by!  Vote for Tim Burns on May 18th!

Properly armed… and who do our laws really protect?

“The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed.”  —- Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-188

The Supreme Court is considering a ruling (which will expand to the states the historic ruling of 2008) that individuals have a federally protected right to keep and bear arms.   If passed, this will be another hallmark victory for gun rights advocates.

With the current political climate in Washington, the right to bear arms is important — now more than ever.    Our government is becoming even more and more powerful with more personal freedoms being plucked away on an almost constant basis these days.   With health care on the chopping block, it’s just a matter of time before other personal decisions and choices are taken from us.   When the dam breaks, it’s hard to stop the waters!    [Right now, there is legislation in the works in South Carolina to stop profanity in public forums...  What?!    Not only is that an unrealistic expectation (and perhaps a violation of free speech), but aren't there more important things which should be addressed right now...  like JOBS?]

For those who are against guns and the right for individuals to bear arms, I say once again…  Be careful what you wish for.  You just might get it.   Once this innate right is taken, it will be near impossible to get it back.  Without the ability to defend ourselves, we run the risk of the elite abusing us as a people — the very thing which initiated our Declaration or Independence so many years ago!

Guns do not kill people; people kill people.  Regardless of our laws, those who wish to do harm to others — will.    How can we defend ourselves and our families if we do not arm ourselves?    Do you know that in some states, you can be prosecuted for killing someone who breaks into your home?    Yup, it’s true.    Self defense laws vary from state to state. In general, you’re only allowed the minimum amount of force required to subdue your attacker.    To me, this thinking is asinine since you don’t know the attacker and their intentions (and how much force is really required to subdue THEM), but that’s our lawmakers and “justice” system at its best.    Is it just me or does it seem like our laws protect criminals rather then the law-abiding citizens?    Same goes with sexual predators who either get out early on parole or finish their sentences only to return to the public where they repeat their behaviors and/or step it up a notch (i.e. offend and then murder).   This seems to be the case of the 17-year-old Chelsea King, from the San Diego area, who was recently found murdered after she had gone missing while jogging at a neighborhood lake (A registered sex offender, out walking the streets, appears to be the culprit)…  Who was protecting HER?

Those who violate the law should be held accountable and after so many violations, they should give up their rights and freedoms (no excuses).    It’s time we protect our law-abiding citizens and stop whining about the stigmas associated with criminals and their childhood misfortunes  (Everyone is a victim, right?).    I’m frankly tired of hearing all the excuses out there and many people have had dire circumstances in their lives which could have been precursors to crime — but they beat them and they’re doing well and are successful today.

We need to stop worrying about law-abiding citizens taking up arms and start really concentrating on those who continually abuse our laws and the system.   We also need to put God back in our lives as our moral compass.

Why do we continually relinquish our safety, sense of well-being, and freedoms for a few bad apples?
